China’s First Batch of Offshore Engineering Flexible Manufacturing Intelligent Welding Robots Completed Integration

On August 11, Offshore Oil Engineering announced that China’s first domestically developed flexible manufacturing intelligent welding robot equipment system for offshore engineering had completed integration in Tianjin and entered the testing and acceptance stage, marking a breakthrough in flexible manufacturing technology for key nodes of China’s offshore oil and gas equipment.

Flexible manufacturing can quickly adapt to changes in demand, design, and production. The intelligent welding robots developed this time are equipped with visual recognition capabilities, offering high flexibility and strong environmental adaptability. They are suitable for multi-category customized welding in complex environments. Their development involves interdisciplinary technologies that are mastered by only a few countries internationally. The three sets of equipment integrated in this project can perform functions such as intelligent prefabrication and assembly welding of tubular nodes and reinforcement ring welding of deep-water jackets. Each unit has a maximum load capacity of 30 tons, a designed service life of 20 years, and the core software and process library are 100% independently developed.

To tackle the challenge of welding accuracy in offshore engineering, the project team has adopted innovative engineering concepts and achieved more than ten technological innovations, including AI weld seam visual recognition and intelligent path deviation correction, enabling one-click initiation of intelligent welding. The team is currently advancing commissioning and acceptance to upgrade the equipment toward “more precise welding and faster welding.”
